Iris Loew-Friedrich is responsible for Global Development at UCB, which includes clinical development and overall responsibility for the development projects. She was previously Global Head of Research and Development at Schwarz Pharma where she was responsible for the successful development of rotigotine, fesoterodine and lacosamide and was a member of Schwarz Pharma's Executive Board with responsibility for Research and Development. She has held a clinical professorship for internal medicine at the University of Frankfurt since 2000 and still lectures on the subject.
Iris was previously Vice President of Global Projects at BASF Pharma with responsibility for the worldwide development of all BASF Pharma projects. She started her career in the pharmaceutical industry at Hoechst AG, ultimately with global responsibility for clinical development programmes in rheumatology, immunology and bone diseases. During this period she also spent four years in the US.
She studied medicine at the University of Frankfurt and is a licensed physician. She studied for a thesis at the Max Planck Institute of Biophysics in Frankfurt from where she received her doctorate. She was staff physician at the Department of Internal Medicine at the Frankfurt University Medical School where she specialised in immunology, nephrology and transplantation medicine. She has contributed to numerous scientific publications on the subject of internal medicine and has achieved a number of significant major awards and scholarships.
